The Bible and PCOS

Living with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can feel overwhelming and hopeless at times. So, I want to share some Bible verses that have helped me on my PCOS journey in hopes that they help you, too.

From managing symptoms to navigating emotional ups and downs, it’s easy to feel discouraged. As a dietitian with PCOS myself, I can not imagine going through these trials without Christ! Here are five Bible verses to encourage you with PCOS.

1. 1 Peter 5:7 – God cares about you.

“Casting all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

God sees your struggles with PCOS and cares deeply about your pain. There are certainly times I’ve felt so alone in this PCOS journey and like no one gets what I’m going through.

But then I remember, the omniscient God of the universe knows, sees, and cares! This verse encourages us to bring Him our burdens and surrender control to Him, knowing that He is a compassionate and loving Father.

2. Philippians 3:20-21 – Our hope isn’t in our bodies, but in Christ.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.” – Philippians 3:20-21

When dealing with PCOS, it’s easy to feel frustrated with your body. And it’s easy to think things would be so much better if you could just get to a healthy weight, get rid of your PCOS symptoms, or get pregnant.

If we’re not careful, we can start putting our hope in these things. But this verse reminds us that our hope isn’t in earthly things (including our health)—it’s in Christ and His eternal kingdom.

3. Genesis 1:27 – Our worth comes from our Creator, not our health status.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27

Your worth isn’t tied to how healthy you are or how well your body functions. This verse assures us that our value comes from being made in God’s image, not from our physical condition.

Not only that, but God can use our body in whatever state its in for His glory! And He wants to to build His Kingdom.

4. Romans 5:12 – Because of sin and The Fall, our bodies don’t work the way God designed.

“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.” (Romans 5:12)

PCOS is a reminder that we live in a fallen, broken world where our bodies don’t function as God originally intended. This verse points to the reality of sin and its impact on creation, but also sets the stage for the hope we have in Christ.

5. Revelation 21:4 – One day there will be no more suffering for those who follow Christ.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

PCOS may bring challenges, but this verse points to the ultimate hope we have as followers of Christ: a future where suffering no longer exists!

If you have repented of your sin and are a follower of Christ, we have this promise of spending eternity with Him where there will no longer be sin or suffering! Hold onto this promise as you face each day.
